Israeli encroachment on Palestinian Rights For a long time, essentially since the existence of the state of Israel, the Israeli people living there have greatly discriminated on the people living in the nation of Palestine, which is still struggling to gain recognition as a state from the international community. Awareness of severe oppression from Israel to palestine was greatly raised in the summer of 2014, when Israel fired hundreds of missiles and bombed palestine for a long period of time, in which thousands of people died, most of whom were civilians. For the last couple of years, Israel has been expanding its settlements along the borders of Israel to a point where the Israeli settlers are essentially encroaching on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Human Rights Watch). Media outlets have generally either ignored the seeming annexation of Palestinian land or have called out Israel for its increasingly right wing politics which tend to exist at the detriment of the Palestinians living in these areas where settlements start to crop up. For the world, this is of increasing importance, as peace in the middle east can only truly be reached if we acknowledge the harm that Israel perpetuates on the people of palestine.

Current and Future
Currently, the Israeli supreme court just allowed for severe discrimination against Palestinians (Human Rights Watch). The Supreme Court allowed for state officials to essentially allow the eviction of Palestinians from their villages in order to move Israeli settlements into the area (Human Rights Watch). This decision involves the movement of the thousand or so people living in the village of Umm Al-Hiran, which was a village created after the Israeli government forced the people to move 60 years ago in 1956. The key player in this issue is currently the newly re-elected prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is familiar to the American public as the man who came to congress to speak on the evils of Iran and how it is in the best interest of the U.S to make sure that Iran never reaches nuclear capabilities. It will be his decision as to whether he wants to move his country way more right than it was, or to stop the seeming annexation of Palestinian territory for Israeli gain (Middle East Monitor).
The future of this issue scares me and should scare you. I would love to believe that at a certain point, the international community will protest Israel's excessive use of force and decry its actions against the people of Palestine as inhumane and in violation of their human rights, but I think thats a stretch. For decades, the international community and prominent world figures have ignored the issues of Israeli annexation of Palestine and the injustices that Israel inflicts on the people, so any hope of a time where Israel is held accountable for its own actions is likely to not occur anytime soon. However, I do believe that soon, more countries will recognize Palestine as a state than already do, helping to give the fledging nation a leg to stand on and a way to defend itself from the injustices of the Israeli government. This issue is of extreme importance to the world, as it shows just how easy it is to disregard the minority population of Palestine, yet the solution to the issue is as easy as signing a piece of paper. In order to fix this problem, the members of the U.N need to recognize Palestine as a state and remediate the problem immediately, because otherwise Israel will continue its annexation policies
